director: Matt Mahurin
date(s) filmed: 12/13 November 1994
shoot location:
date released: December 5, 1994
special appearances: Matt Mahurin wearing a defunct mask
interesting info: Some scenes from the Everything Zen video are used in the opening credits of Millenium

"I hadn't even seen that many videos before making this because I never had MTV. I just remember that it felt weird miming with all those people standing around, but you soon get over that. Obviously, this video was hugely important in breaking us in America."- Gavin

"Matt Mahurin is so much better than anyone else. He's a painter, he likes the same painters that I do. So we had a whole history of stuff that we got on together about. And he really loved the record most importantly." - Gavin

Little Things 3 min. 59 sec.
About the video :
director: Matt Mahurin
date(s) filmed: 25 January 1995 & February 1995 (studio)
shoot location: Old Mansion in upstate New York, Long Island,NY & Los Angeles (studio)
date released:
special appearances:
interesting info:"We did this around the biggest house in Long Island, New York. All my shots were done against a wall in a corridor in the basement. My biggest memory of this is that we had a salsa party afterwards with some Cuban dancers -- and it all just went off."-Gavin

"I was very excited to work with Matt Mahurin again, he really helped us out so much with the first video. It wasn't England at all - it was Long Island. The 'castle' was just a huge country house we rented out, one of the biggest country houses in America. All the stuff I did was in that little dank basement up against a wall singing through a tea strainer - in this huge house!!"-Gavin

Body 3 min. 59 sec.
About the video :
director:?
date(s) filmed: week of 25 January 1995
shoot location: New York
date released: never
special appearances:
interesting info: Well, I know what you're thinking, 'When did they make a video for Body, I've never seen it'. As far as I'm concerned, this is hearsay, so far. But supposedly the week they shot Little Things, they also shot Body. But the video never even made it to the editing room. So, that would mean, even if they did shoot it, there's still no video floating around (well, maybe reels of film from the video.)

Mtv peak position: never aired

Comedown 4 min. 37 sec.
About the video :
director: Jake Scott
date(s) filmed: 19-21 June 1995
shoot location: Los Angeles
date released:
special appearances:
interesting info: The director used a special 'fish eye' lens to film some of the scenes. To give that distorted view as if looking through a peep hole. This is also Nigel's favorite video..."Comedown because of the fun we had making it!"- Nigel

Is said to be 'inspired by the paintings of Francis Bacon'.

Jake Scott also went on to direct the No Doubt video 'New'.

"We didn't like the original idea for this, so I got my friend Jake Scott -- a video director I've know for years -- to come up with something different. We knocked this out really quickly. I think it's pretty cool and different."- Gavin

Rumored during the shoot-"In LA, supposedly the LAPD showed up looking for 2 bankrobbers. The robbers had escaped and ran into the studio. They were supposedly found in the wardrobe department."

Glycerine 4 min. 24 sec.
About the video :
director: Kevin Kerslake
date(s) filmed: 02 October 1995
shoot location: Atlanta, GA
date released:
special appearances:
interesting info: That's not Jasmine in the video. They had broken up by this time.

"We had to do this while we were on tour in Atlanta with (director) Kevin Kerslake. It was the first time that we realized we were really busy with a successful album on our hands, so it was a total clinched rush-in-and-do-it big band thing. It was easy to do because I just stood there while the cameras whirled around me, which was nice."-Gavin

Machinehead 4 min. 15 sec.

"'Machinehead' was recorded in Portsmouth on the first day of the European tour, last year."- Nigel

Swallowed 4 min. 25 sec.
About the video :
director: Jamie Morgan
date(s) filmed: October 1996
shoot location: Twickenham Studios England & Florida
date released: October 29, 1996
special appearances: Winston, yeah he's a star.
interesting info: "For the making of "Swallowed," everything had to be filmed at least twice because the video shows clip of people moving at two different speeds at once. While filming Robin playing, he was told to play at twice his normal speed, but to keep his body still and "not to look like Animal from the Muppets" as he played. Unfortunately, the latter was supposedly more difficult for him accomplish." (as reported on Kill Your TV)

This is Dave's favorite video...."Swallowed. I've always wanted to wear a suit in a video."- Dave

"This is a sort of London party video. It was made by another friend, Jamie Morgan. It reminds me of having your first place in London on your own."- Gavin

Greedy Fly 7 min. 7 sec.
About the video :
director: Mark Nispel
date(s) filmed: December 1996
shoot location: Los Angeles
date released: 20 January 1997 (UK-April 09, 1997)
special appearances:
interesting info: "This was our ridiculous movie, shot in the same building where they filmed 'Seven.' It was just crazy. We spent almost half a million quid on it, which is a stupid, immoral amount of money that I can't really justify. It was fun to have done an epic like that once."- Gavin

"We sort of tried doing one mad Interscope vieo sort of thing, big budget like a rock version answer to a rap video. It was kind of fun to do, but I felt a bit immoral doing it."-Gavin

Bonedriven 4 min. 28 sec.
About the video :
director: Mark Lebon
date(s) filmed: 21-24 May 1997
shoot location: London
date released: 14 September 1997
special appearances: Ruby Rose (Robin's daughter)
interesting info:"Hmmm, it's quite a moody one, I suppose...."- Gavin

"Basically it was the last video to be made off that album. They had already released all the big singles and the album had already had quite a few videos made, BMW approached the band because they wanted bonedriven to be used in an ad. Bush agreed, and on top of this they were offered a BMW Z3 each if they used a BMW in a video for bonedriven... They weren't intending to make a video but decided to do one in response to that offer... Anyway there was a really big budget and mark lebon was going to direct it. They had big ideas for some crazy video, but in the end it all fell through...

They decided to make a video anyway but keep it low budget as they now had no BMW backing, and as far as im concerned the video that was made was far more personal and interesting than any big budget shite...

Mark followed them on tour in the states for a month shooting lots of the live footage seen in the video on a small handheld mini dv camera... Then did a couple of days back in London with the group of young friends and models - shooting more dv and lots of stills. Into this is mixed some home video stuff of mark's son playing with his cars........" - this statement was submitted to OSB per a reliable source, who wishes to remain anonymous.

Mtv peak position: don't think they played this one

Personal Holloway 3 min. 24 sec.
About the video :
director: John Hillcoat
date(s) filmed: February 1997
shoot location: Dublin, Ireland; Milton Keynes, England; & London (studio)
date released:
special appearances:
interesting info: This is Gavin's favorite video..."video would be Personal Holloway as Winston starts it and I always wanted us to do a pure pure performance and it was after the Greedy Fly video which was massive like a movie and so the simplicity of the p.h. video appealed. also of course the bit where we get sprayed with the black oil-dirt is good."-Gavin

"That was our low-key antidote to the 'Greedy Fly' video. It's cool because Winston's in it."- Gavin

"We've got one in the can, as they say, for 'Personal Holloway' which is like an antidote to that sort of slightly exaggerated film video that we did for 'Greedy Fly'. We sort of tried doing one mad Interscope vieo sort of thing, big budget like a rock version answer to a rap video. It was kind of fun to do, but I felt a bit immoral doing it. So we went to Dublin to do a really skinny, having said Skinny Puppy, skinny is a great word, skinny performance video which, funny enough, I always wanted to do. I'm really proud of that video and so it will come out. It's just wicked. It's just got a vibe and there's really a special kind of ting about it. I was really involved in it and in fact it was my idea because I like to get filthy. This of course sounds cryptic now, but it will make sense. You'll see me getting filthy."- Gavin

Mtv peak position: played on MuchMusic, I don't think on MTV

The Chemicals Between Us 3 min. 37 sec.
About the video :
director: Stephane Sedanoui
date(s) filmed: 27/28 & 30 August 1999
shoot location: Los Angeles (studio)
date released: 27 September 1999 (5 October 1999, UK)
special appearances:
interesting info: If you wanna know about the vision behind the video you can read the video script. The script was actually finished/dated March 23 1999, so it was a good 5 months before they started shooting.

Mtv did a top 100 video of the year at the end of 1999, I don't remember the exact position this video was (49 or 50, around there), but I do remeber that Mandy's 1st video called 'Candy' peaked one position higher. COME ON.. that Mandy video sucked ass.

Method Stuido - video profile.

"Thinking about it, the most extravagant thing was my lst video ('The Chemicals Between Us')- that was fucking extravagant. I think the next video I do I'm just going to get a pile of money and burn it, KLF style. I might as well just cut to the chase."-Gavin

special appearances:
interesting info: Michele Hicks is the girl.DP: Sal Totino, Editor: Jamie Manalio.

"The postponing of the UK tour was because we got screwed by a video director and we had to have a video for 'Letting the Cables Sleep'. We had absolutely no time, so we had to decide whether we shot a video in New York with Joel Schumacher, who was available on specific days only, or play the original UK shows. The chance of working with someone of the calibre made our minds up for us. So we said, 'Let's roll it over, make our apologies, and hope no one gets too upset about it." - Robin

shoot location: London (studio)
date released: 2000
special appearances: Gavin Rossdale

"The concept of the video is paranoia. It's about coming down after a night on it and finding yourself alone in a minging hotel. It touches on that feeling of isolation and despair."- Amos

"I play the really paranoid person in the background."- Jeremy

"A bit like being the bass player in a band, really."- Gavin (on the video concept)

"Bleachin' are old friends, so I ended up doing a video with them and way more than I expected! It's all oil and apathy. it's me being laid-back - probably because I wasn't the performer." - Gavin
Mtv peak position: yeah right!

The People That We Love 4 min. 6 sec.
About the video :
director: Ulf Buddensieck
date(s) filmed: July/August 2001
shoot location: London Studio
date released: week of October 1st 2001
special appearances:
interesting info: "He (ulf) came up with a treatment that was exactly what I was looking for.....It was as if I wrote a list and ticked off boxes. He wanted to do something that was edgy and vibrant and alive, and that's exactly what I wanted. Too many videos today are just too dark and moody. They all look like they were shot in a garage. We wanted to be unmoody and undark." - Gavin

"I just wanted to use the visuals to emphasize the song...I haven't seen that many other bands use the same approach, so I thought it was interesting." - Gavin
