Cold Contagious

Lyrics

wherever you are
you will carry always
truth of the scars
darkness of your faith
slowly move on
how did we get to here?
it all went wrong
gravity claiming all your tears
everything looks so much better now
looks so much better now

skinful

you will get yours
you will get yours
you will get yours

you have no right to ask me now
you were never that around
and i have this

reality day trips
and your suit me suit me ways
turn out the light switch
we’ve been awake for days
and no one’s coming ’round here no more
no one’s coming ’round here

you will get yours
your will get yours
your will get yours
your will get yours
your will get yours

you have no right to calm me down
you were never that around
i have this
i have this

cold contagious
all the mighty mighty men
what you save is
what you lose out in the end
cold contagious
cold contagious

paint your perfect day
i don’t mind this
i’m better off by the way
i’m deeply grounded

you will get yours
you will get yours
you will get yours
and you will get yours

you will get yours
you will get yours

cold contagious
all the mighty mighty men
what you save is
what you lose out in the end
cold contagious
cold contagious

About The Song

wtf does that word mean?

skinful [n.] a large or satisfying quantity especially of liquor

Band Thoughts:

‘It’s such a sad song. As usual, it’s about four different things. It comes from that period when I was writing, of course, and of seeing how when relationships break up, how lovely happy homes just get destroyed. It’s funny, isn’t it, when a physical place has symbolized really great happiness and security and warmth but, as soon as that goes, the place becomes alien and barren and it’s so full of memories that it’s just to painful to be around. So there’s bits of that, and there’s bits of the desire for revenge, yeah. And it’s as much to do with my own belief in myself as other people’s belief in me. And it’s to do with family stuff and it’s to do with people around me, to do with that fear that success will twist things, and with bitterness, in ‘You were never that around’. Things always seem much more acute in moments of panic. But since there’s a little bit of distance and perspective about a problem or disagreement, you can use it lyrically and it can still be sharp.’- Gavin

‘If I read that from someone objectively, I would get a lot of bitterness from it – ‘reality daytrips’- and I think I am bitter in some ways.’ – Gavin

‘That ‘deeply grounded’ line comes from being right in the eye of everything there.’- Gavin

‘And part of the song, a lot of it is that whole maleness thing- ‘the mighty mighty men.’- Gavin

“Cold Contagious just moves me and is so personal it is naked. a true song of resentment and my ability or not to deal with it. this song helped.”- Gavin

“Cold Contagious because it struck a chord with me.”- Nigel

“A kind of epic in it’s own way.”- Dave

“But on “Cold Contagious,” for example, he’s rattling away, and on a few other tracks as well, as he develops more confidence. And he goes through all the changes”- Nigel

“‘Cold Contagious’ was changed to ‘Happy Families’ and changed back to ‘Cold Contagious’ because Gavin cannot make his mind up.” – Nigel
