Lyrics
iron lung
know you well
deal with you
like a bad spell
see the trail
moon burns
red stripe
and vicadin
you were the only one
you’re the censor
you’ll never people me
i’m not defenseless
in the afternoon
as the light dims
build a life out of all
all of this semtex
you’re the brightest one
you were the center
perfect opposite of
of what you asked for
it’s not just one way
a negative factor
with all these wasps out
better take cover
better take cover
copper tongue
beam me up
lonely without
my impediments
start to save
what we used to steal
walkin’ on
on gelatine
i never noticed you
you were the brightest one
you were wide of me
just like the English sun
you caught the light again
in a perfect way
the biggest threat of all
is in the alley way
you’re the demon seed
you’re the factor
you’ll feel better with
a little bit of plaster
it’s not just one way
a negative factor
with all these wasps out
i’d better take cover
there’s all the pain in the way she talks
there’s all the pain in the way she walks
there’s all the pain in her wave goodbye
all the pain in the way she smiles
there’s all the pain in her fatal charm
all the pain in her arms
in her arms
in her arms
in her arms
in her arms

Band Thoughts:
‘Beat-like, totally riffing and unconscious-driven, in which you can pull out lines and isolate them. But overall it’s all to do with tone and how you present it. ‘Red stripe and Vicodin’, they’re pretty much what I lived on when my stomach was really bad. ‘Insect Kin’ is just mood to me, pure mood, all struggle and trying to fit in. ‘You’ll never people me’: you’ll never make me into who you’d think I should be. Maybe it would be easier if I was more standard, more expected.’ – Gavin
‘All the pain in the way she walks/All the pain in her wave goodbye’ ‘That stuff is totally about Courtney [Love]; I don’t mind saying that at all. It comes from when I was first friendly with her. I met her in Washington, where we both played a big radio show, and then when we went to Seattle to record a song for a film, we got apartments there and stayed for a few weeks. I rang up someone, a mutual friend, to get her number…..What did I learn from her? That it’s really good to soak up knowledge; that it’s good to strive to be erudite and articulate and culturally involved. It’s just like kindred spirits; I’ve always felt that with her. Which is what this song originally was called, ‘Insect Kindred’. People of the same silk.’ – Gavin
“This is a song about winning and about doing it your … way”-Gavin
“My favourite line, maybe even, is on ‘Insect Kin’ and says ‘I’m not defenseless’”-Gavin
Staff Thoughts:
“I majorly love this song. Such massive energy, how could you not like it.Then the smooth drawn out ending. Damn he’s good. How something so beautiful could be written about Courtney Love, that I can’t answer.”- Laura
Greedy fucking whore.”-Brandyn
