Bomb

Lyrics

wanted to buy you shiny red things
thought i’d be with you until the end
how did i know that i would be there?
blow me away
see if i

death of a future
goodbye to my friends
wish i could see you all again
family hollow
family real
wish you were here
see how i feel

oh, kill a man
oh, kill a girl
oh, kill a man
oh, kill a girl
oh, kill a man
oh, kill a girl

jekyll in you
brings out the wired in me
i have no defense
i’m all that you see
the night is a bomb blast
the night is on fire
sing with me in the gasoline choir

oh, kill a man
oh, kill a girl
oh, kill a man
oh, kill a girl
oh, kill a man
oh, kill a girl
oh, kill a man
oh, kill a girl

i killed a man
i killed a man
i killed a man
i killed a man

and you say you want to change our minds
i’ve paid for your belief with mine
of all the bravest stands in time
you stoop so low you’ll never rise

About The Song

wtf does that word mean?:

jekyll [n.] one having a two-sided personality one side of which is good and the other evil (as in Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde)

Band Thoughts:

‘That’s to do with growing up in Kilburn….All those pubs in the area- The Cock Tavern, and Biddy Mulligan’s, were famous for the IRA. And whenever we went to watch bands at the Kilburn National, Biddy Mulligan’s was the first pub we went to, and there was such weird energy around all those kind of people. You knew they were there. The hardest thing about writing a song like that is that if you have feelings about these things, about political issues, how do you write it? Besides just saying, sure, war is bad? I just thought of the people who were in that bombing. I thought of a guy who was in the Covent Garden bombing so I just wrote it from his perspective; from the point of view of some man who’s gone out shopping for his wife, and gets caught in it.’- Gavin

“I just tried to personalize it and um, wrote it from the perspective of a guy who got- there was a pub bombing,um, I don’t know.I suppose about 18 months ago. Yeah, and um, it just struck me that there’s this guy so that’s why that song…the wanted to buy you shiny red things was just how it starts is the guy going shopping and he’s there and then he gets blown up, you know and so there are repercussions through his family and whatever because for every person, every single victim of a bombing there must be at least 30 people that are directly affected by it and so I just wrote it from that.” -Gavin

“‘Bomb’ is about the IRA and therefore very British…”- Gavin

Staff Thoughts:

“Definite dark undertone. Bush singing a song called ‘Bomb’..I bet the government loves them for this one. “- Laura

“If you listen very closely to it, you can hear the “Die, you fuckin’ murders” that he always says live. It’s VERY low, so as not to alert the censors. No band sneaks profanity into songs like Bush, eh?”-Brandyn
