MUSIC
INSTITUTE AS THE STORY MAY GO. LEAD MAN GAVIN ROSSDALE MET CHRIS TRAYNOR THROUGH HIS PREVIOUS BAND 'BUSH'. WHEN BUSH'S ORIGINAL LEAD GUITAR MAN (NIGEL) DECIDED NOT TO GO ON BUSH'S FINAL TOUR IN 2002 CHRIS TRAYNOR WAS ASKED TO STEP IN. CHRIS WAS PROBABLY INTRODUCED TO BUSH BY WAY OF DAVE SARDY. THE PRODUCER ON BUSH'S FINAL ALBUM 'GOLDEN STATE', WHO ALSO HAD PRODUCED ONE ON HELMET'S PAST ALBUMS AS WELL. AND THE BALL ROLLS ON.....
BY THE END OF 2002 BUSH HAD GONE ON AN INDEFINITE HIATIS. IN JUne 2003 GAVIN SURFACED TO LET HIS FANS KNOW about THE 20 OR SO SONGS THAT HE HAD WRITTEN AND RECORDED WITH PRODUCER PAGE HAMILTON, ALSO A MEMBER OF HELMET. the next part of the story is best left to unravel in gavin's own words. GAVIN POSTED this music news on THE OFFICIAL 'BUSH' WEB SITE. in his journal.

june 02, 2003 "you must be thinking "what the fuck is happening and where's the new music'
i feel a little bit like that myself.
i have been writing anf recording and figuring the best way to re-enter the gates of sound.
i have recorded 20 songs so far and am continuing to write and figure my best form
of attack.
i know it seems drawn out and i miss being on tour and playing every night.it suits me.
i don't even need that many days off.
for at least 15 reasons i find myself still working in the backroom.
there is no danger of me disappearing and not bringing out new music,i guess i am trying to push myself further and evolve and crystallise.
of course it's not rocket science but there has been turbulence and along with that
some living back in the real world outside of the bubble of bush i have been in for
quite some time.
as it's festival time again my heart is heavy at the thought of not playing but i's ok
i suppose.it drives me on. .....................then july and august i'll be music intensive(thankfully) and hopefully nailing it .
the weird part is just not knowing how things will work out.as always i know that
the only thing that matters is to make great music.
i anticipate great support this time around from those around me.
i'm really happy with some of the tracks i've done and just want to get them out
and start singing for my supper again."

august 28, 2003 "i'm back in la now and having seen the press for the last couple of days,i can tell you freely
what i am working on.
the reason that i keep this stuff private and cryptic is because you never know how stuff is gonna turn out and i do not need an omelette all over my face but since it has become public knowledge(how!!!????)
i will fill you all in....
i have been working with/produced by page hamilton who is the seminal founder member
of helmet.
as i had written before i have been working on material in london and
i went in with him as an experiment with three new songs(the press even knew that!!)
and they turned out pretty good and we will continue."

october 08, 2003
"onto the music-
the plan is to continue recording with page and finish the record.
i guess he is also doing a helemt record so it is a case of figuring the time
but i am of course deeply excited by the prospect of showing you what i have been writing/working on.
i wonder why it has to take so long but there is a natural speed to things
and we are all victims of that.
just don\t go forgetting that i will need you to come see us play and all
listen to the music we have made.
are you still with me????

i have about five or six songs still to write i think and that is the thrust
of my attention now. "

october 10, 2003
"now we are at
the point of scheduling the record and sorting through the songs to do.
i am not out of the woods-are we ever??and the latest bombshell only arrived two days ago.
another lateral blow.
it is too early to explain and my apologies at not disclosing all info to you but there are some things best left to be sorted rather than blather or complain to you here.
the way life is it could be a blessing.
nothing is a mistake.
you will see what i'm talking about.
it will not be a mystery for long.
it may mean i finish the record at the beginning og the year.
that's the worst of it.
i did listen through the 15 songs i have narrowed down to on the list yesterday (i still have four more to write)and i was thinking i wish i could bring you in and have you hear the songs out but i guess that's slightly
impractical.
nevertheless i was thinking about you when i was sat there."

october 28, 2003"ok so the latest trouble ,i can now tell you was the departure of chris and the drummer.
so basically i lost two out of the four.
can you feel me?
very unexpected.
it threw me for a couple of days as i was like damn, when am i gonna make this record.
it put me out of shape.
but now i am good.
i have got my guitarist and a new drummer.
cahche is still playing bass.
you will be serially excited when i tell you who it is.
i am holding back until we really get into it.
so far he has worked on one track.and he rocks.

in ten days we start rehearsals.
then christmas plus i have my time on constantine.
so the record is delayed until january but it kind of works especially with the
personnel change.

i was expecting to have finished the record by christmas and instead we start afterwards but hey-there you go.
you will hear what i have been doing and there will be a record.

i will reveal all as soon as it is cool and we ,as a band, are settled.

for the record-chris has rejoined helmet .

page will still produce the record.
all band members will be in la."

november 30, 2003 "Of course i had expected to be half way through my record but the line up has not been perfect. yet.i thought it was.twice.and i was excited but the start has therewfore been delayed.
so we have not been able to get in there
we are figuring it all the time.....
meanwhile i continue to write and so now the start is slated for january/feb.
it's not a wild goose chase but it is taking it's own time-that's for sure.
but be patient-the record is coming.
you will love it."

long pause......

february 2005, gavin finally unveils his plan. the band 'institute' and the promise of new music.
